WATER TESTING

Central Miss Wtrtst hdr

Be assured that your groundwater is safe to drink

There are factors that can affect your water’s safety such as biological (bacteria), physical (breakdown of nitrogen compounds in soils and rocks), and radiological (arsenic and radon). Ground Water Association recommends that water well owners have their wells checked by a certified and / or licensed contractor every year. Make sure your water is safe for your family.

Central Missouri Building Inspectors helps you make sure your water is supplying potable water for the entire family.

Frequent testing should be considered in the following cases:

  • Change in your water's taste, order, or appearance
  • A broken well cap
  • Property inundated by floodwater
  • Residents or visitors with recurrent incidents of GI illnesses
  • Infants living on the property

Protect your water

Bacteria

Total coliform is the most commonly used indicator of bacterial contamination. Total coliform are a broad category of bacteria. Most pose no threat to humans if consumed. The presence of coliform in your water can be a clue of deteriorating water quality. More specific tests for fecal contamination (E. coli) should be used.

Nitrates

Fertilizers, septic systems, animal manure and leaking sewer lines are common sources of nitrate contamination. Also it can occur naturally from the breakdown of nitrogen compounds in soils and rocks. High levels present a health concern a can indicate the presence of other contaminates – bacteria and pesticides. Drinking large amounts of water with nitrates is particularly threating to babies.

We may recommend additional testing for certain contaminants. Arsenic and radon are two examples you should be concerned about.

Arsenic and Radon

Arsenic occurs in water contacted with some types of rocks and soils. Radon is tasteless, odorless, and colorless gas that comes from the natural radioactive breakdown of uranium in the ground. Exposure can come from the air (which seeps up through the foundation) in your home and you well water.

We can offer additional test for pH, hardness, iron, manganese, sulfides, and other water constituents that cause problems with you plumbing as well as affect your water’s appearance.

Protect the health of your family with radon testing

Radon is a radioactive gas that has been detected in homes in every state of the nation. Though you cannot smell, taste, or see this gas, it puts your family at increased risk of lung cancer. Our radon testing detects the presence of this gas so it can be addressed, if necessary.
